چکیده

In this paper, the recently introduced optimisation strategy, imperialist competitive algorithm (ICA) is used to design an optimal antenna array which minimises the error probability for binary phase shift keying modulation, called minimum bit error rate (MBER) beamforming. ICA is used to deal with the high complexity and high dimensionality of this challenging problem which can not be easily solved by gradient-based methods. The results are compared to that of both a genetic algorithm (GA) and the optimal array obtained by a properly set gradient based algorithm. Comparison shows that in contrast with GA, ICA leads to the array with error probability which is very close to the optimal value. Also, being faster than GA, ICA minimises the cost function with more consistency. The total results show that ICA is a powerful and reliable tool for solving complex optimisation problems such as MBER beamforming.

A Minimum Approximate-BER Beamforming Approach for PSK Modulated Wireless Systems

A beamforming algorithm is introduced based on the general objective function that approximates the bit error rate for the wireless systems with binary phase shift keying and quadrature phase shift keying modulation schemes. The proposed minimum approximate bit error rate (ABER) beamforming approach does not rely on the Gaussian assumption of the channel noise. Therefore, this approach is also ...

Design of IIR Digital Filter using Modified Chaotic Orthogonal Imperialist Competitive Algorithm (RESEARCH NOTE)

There are two types of digital filters including Infinite Impulse Response (IIR) and Finite Impulse Response (FIR). IIR filters attract more attention as they can decrease the filter order significantly compared to FIR filters. Owing to multi-modal error surface, simple powerful optimization techniques should be utilized in designing IIR digital filters to avoid local minimum. Imperialist compe...
